Larvotto

The district :

Larvotto, considered one of Monaco's most sought-after districts, stands out for its extraordinary location where luxury and quality of life come together.

Situated along the magnificent coast of the French Riviera, this district embodies refined elegance with its sandy beaches and palm-lined avenues. In 2023, Renzo Piano renovated the Larvotto beach.

Although minor architectural changes have been made to enhance the shops, the structure has retained its unique shape. According to an interview with the Monaco Tribune, the majority of visitors are satisfied with the new complex, despite their complaints about the lack of greenery.

The History :

Larvotto, originally an uninhabited beach, was transformed into a lively district after being abandoned at the end of the 17th century. The district was officially named Larvotto after the proclamation of Prince Rainier III in 1966.

The beach, once a railway line, has grown and reclaimed more than a third of its surface area, attracting visitors and construction.

Stately homes overlooking the Mediterranean have been built, and large dykes along the coast provide access to modern beaches and restaurants.

Future :

The Mareterra project is the new vision for Monaco, involving the construction of a residential area of around 60,000 m², consisting mainly of buildings and villas, a public park of around 1 hectare, an extension to the Grimaldi Forum of around 9,000 m², pedestrian areas with gardens and fountains, a coastal promenade, around 3,000 m² of shops, a marina with around 30 boat berths, and various public infrastructures, including a car park. This brand new residential complex will be home to some of the world’s most expensive homes.
