Jardin Exotique
The district :
Located in the north-western part of the Principality, the Jardin Exotique district overlooks the districts of Fontvieille, Condamine and Le Rocher.
It also boasts views over neighbouring Cap d'Ail and La Turbie in France. As well as the botanical garden that gives it its name, the district is home to the Villa Paloma, which houses Monaco's New National Museum, and the Princess Grace Hospital.
Everything is available for everyday life: the École des Révoires, the Parc Princesse Antoinette, and the grocery shop on Avenue Hector Otto.
There are plenty of public staircases and lifts for quick access to the Condamine and Fontvieille markets.
History :
The site of the Jardin Exotique was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century: a steep piece of land overlooking the Révoires district, with a small observatory at the top.
The site seemed to have all the necessary conditions for the development of a specific flora: agaves and prickly pears were already thriving there.
The land was bought by the State, and development work, entrusted to Louis Notari, a public works engineer, began in 1913. This daring and perilous project took more than 20 years to complete, due to the topography of the site, located on a cliff, and the delicate movement of the plants, which required special precautions.
Residential area with stunning views
One of Monaco’s most family-friendly areas is the Jardin Exotique zone. Strategically located at the top of the entrance to Monaco, it offers incredible panoramic views. It is a calm and tranquil residential area, ideal for establishing a primary residence in this family-friendly setting, including children’s parks, a school and pedestrian facilities surrounded by precious Belle Époque villas.
The site
It was finally discovered at the beginning of the 20th century: a steep piece of land overlooking the Révoires district, at the top of which is a small observatory. A place that seems to offer all the conditions necessary for the development of this specific flora: in fact, Agave and Prickly Pear trees are already in good health.
